Create in me a clean heart, O God; and
Renew a right spirit within me.
Psalm 51:10
King David after he fell into the depths of sin came to God in humble repentance seeking forgiveness for his acts of rebellion against God and his people. He came to God to purify his heart from guilt and sin. He prayed to God to renew his relationship with the Holy Spirit so that he could have a right spirit within him.

forgiveness of sins was shown by christ at various times during His life on earth --even to the last day forgiving Peter and the thief on the cross
