A Star Shall Rise

Opening Scripture

“I see Him, but not now; I behold Him, but not near; a Star shall come out of Jacob; a Scepter shall rise out of Israel, and batter the brow of Moab, and destroy all the sons of tumult.” – Numbers 24:17

Opening Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for sending Jesus, the Star of Jacob, whose light shines for all people. Help us to see the global significance of Christmas and reflect Your love to others. Reign as the Scepter in our hearts, and guide us to live in peace, joy, and hope this Advent season. Amen.

Reflection

Advent is a season of waiting and hope, and Numbers 24:17 gives us a prophetic glimpse of the Messiah. The Star of Jacob represents Jesus, the Light of the World, who came to bring salvation to all. As we journey through Advent, we remember His words: “I am the Light of the World. Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness, but will have the Light of Life” (John 8:12).

This prophecy and Jesus’ declaration remind us that He is the fulfillment of God’s promise to bring light into our darkness. Matthew Henry notes, “Christ is the Star of Jacob, the Light shining in the darkness of the world.” In a world often overshadowed by fear, sin, and uncertainty, Jesus offers us the light of life, guiding us toward hope and peace.

Rick Warren writes, “We are made to live in the light of God’s presence.” Following Jesus means allowing His light to shine in the darkest parts of our hearts, leading us away from fear and into abundant life.

Jesus, the Light of the World, calls us to follow Him and walk in the light of life. Just as the Star of Jacob guided the Magi, His light leads us out of darkness and into truth and joy. Let this Advent season renew your hope and faith in His guiding presence.

Question for Reflection

What darkness in your life needs to be illuminated by the light of Jesus? How can you follow His light more closely this Advent season?

Closing Prayer

Jesus, Light of the World,

Shine Your light into the darkest corners of my heart. Thank You for leading me out of darkness and into the light of life. Help me to follow You more faithfully and share Your light with others this Advent season. Amen.
