The Path to Peace

Therefore, being justified by Faith,

We have Peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,

Romans 5:1

Introduction

The Advent season invites us to reflect on the transformative gift of peace that comes through justification by faith. This peace is not merely the absence of conflict but a deep reconciliation with God, made possible by His grace.

Reflection

Understanding God’s grace transforms how we experience peace. True peace begins with knowing that we are no longer estranged from God. John Wesley wrote, “My heart was strangely warmed. I felt I did trust in Christ, Christ alone for salvation; and an assurance was given me that He had taken away my sins.” This assurance of grace lifts the weight of guilt and brings profound rest to the soul.

Henri Nouwen observed, “Peace is not something you can force on the outside world, but something you find deep within.” When we accept God’s grace, peace flows from our restored relationship with Him into all areas of life. Patrick Miller adds, “Peace is the state of wholeness and well-being that comes when our relationship with God is set right.”

This grace is both a gift and a call. It invites us to trust God completely, allowing His peace to anchor us even in life’s storms. As Advent reminds us of Christ’s first coming, it also calls us to live in anticipation of His return, trusting in His ongoing work of restoration.

Question for Reflection

How does the assurance of God’s grace shape your response to conflict or uncertainty in your life?

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the gift of peace that comes through Your Son, Jesus Christ. Help me to rest in the assurance of Your grace and to trust You completely. Teach me to live as a reflection of Your peace in a troubled world, sharing Your love and hope with others. Amen.
