The Peacemaker’s Call

Blessed are the peacemakers,

for they will be called children of God.

— Matthew 5:9

Introduction

Advent invites us to prepare for Jesus the Prince of Peace by becoming channels of His peace. Jesus calls us to reflect His peace in a fractured world, embracing the role of peacemakers who embody His love and reconciliation.

Reflection

Peacemaking is at the heart of the Gospel. Jesus didn’t just speak about peace—He lived it, even amidst opposition. As St. Francis of Assisi prayed, “Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace.” Peacemaking isn’t passive; it requires courage, humility, and a willingness to enter the messiness of human relationships.

True peace demands forgiveness—a deep letting go of bitterness and the bold step toward reconciliation. During World War II, Corrie ten Boom forgave the man who betrayed her family. Her story reminds us that peacemaking starts in the heart, where the Holy Spirit transforms our anger into love.

Shane Claiborne challenges modern Christians, saying, “Peacemaking is not just something we do; it is a reflection of who we are.” As children of God, peacemaking is part of our spiritual DNA. In Advent, as we anticipate Christ’s coming, we are invited to embody His peace through acts of kindness, forgiveness, and reconciliation.

The Advent season calls us to pause, reflect, and prepare our hearts to be vessels of God’s peace in our homes, communities, and world. How will we answer the call?

Question for Reflection

What is one step I can take this week to bring peace into a broken relationship or situation?

Closing Prayer

Lord Jesus, Prince of Peace,

You call us to reflect Your peace in a broken world. Shape us into instruments of Your peace, ready to forgive, reconcile, and love even when it’s hard. Fill us with Your Spirit to shine Your light in the darkness. Amen.
