God’s Love Revealed

This is how God’s love was revealed among us:

God sent His one and only Son into the world,

So that we might live through Him. - 1 John 4:9

As we light the fourth Advent candle, the candle of love, we remember how God revealed His love through the birth of His Son, Jesus Christ. This act of divine love brought hope, peace, and joy to a broken world, culminating in the ultimate sacrifice for our salvation.

Reflection

God’s love is not a distant or abstract concept; it is personal, sacrificial, and transformative. It was demonstrated through Christ’s incarnation, death, and resurrection—proof that God’s love actively seeks to redeem and restore.

Eugene Peterson reminds us that love “is not sentimental but sacrificial,” a daily choice to act in the best interests of others, even when it costs us. Charles Spurgeon calls this love “the unmerited favor of God,” urging believers to extend that same grace and compassion to a hurting world.

In this Advent season, consider how God’s love compels us to love others. It may be through forgiveness, acts of kindness, or simply being present for those in need. Love, as Jesus demonstrated, requires action.

Question for Reflection

How can you embody God’s sacrificial love in your interactions with others this Advent season?

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for revealing Your perfect love by sending Your Son into the world. Help us to reflect Your love to those around us through acts of kindness, forgiveness, and grace. May we always remember the cost of Your love and live in gratitude and obedience. Amen.
