The Prince of Peace

Scripture: Isaiah 9:6

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

Introduction

As we journey through Advent, we are reminded that Jesus is the Prince of Peace, sent to reconcile us to God and one another. This peace is not merely the absence of conflict but a profound wholeness and restoration that touches every part of our lives.

Reflection

Isaiah 9:6 reveals the heart of the Advent message: Jesus came to bring peace between God and humanity. John Stott describes this peace as “the harmony of restored relationships.” Through His life, death, and resurrection, Christ bridged the chasm caused by sin, offering us reconciliation and an enduring peace rooted in God’s presence.

Rick Warren notes, “You’ll never know peace until you surrender your life to the Prince of Peace.” Surrender is the pathway to experiencing His peace in our hearts, relationships, and circumstances. Similarly, Eugene Peterson reminds us that “peace is not a passive state; it is the active presence of Christ within us.”

Charles Spurgeon wrote, “The peace which Jesus gives is not a lull before the storm but eternal calm.” This peace transcends the storms of life, anchoring us in His love and promises.

Where in your life do you long for this peace? Is it in your relationship with God, others, or even within your own heart? Advent invites us to bring these areas before Jesus, allowing Him to reign as the Prince of Peace in every situation.

Question for Reflection

Where do you need Christ’s peace in your life, and how can you surrender that area to Him today?

Closing Prayer

Lord Jesus, Prince of Peace,

I bring before You the areas in my life where I feel restless and troubled. Help me to surrender these to You, trusting in Your love and power. Fill my heart with Your peace and guide me to share this peace with others. In Your holy name, Amen.

Advent Carol
